Polacca brillante Op.72..."), the earlier entries also providing details of print-run numbers, some entries with later annotations indicating when the plates were melted down, some corrected entries written on slips of paper and affixed to the page, c.600 pages, small 4to (c.19.5 x 16cm), original half calf, illegible paper label with bookseller's stamp ("Schlesinger'sche Buch u. Mus. Handl.") to upper cover, [Berlin,] nineteenth century (c.1812 onwards), some leaves torn and worn, binding defective, covers detached and very worn; bound together with a catalogue of published works, ordered alphabetically by composer (from "Abeille" to "Zumsteeg"), listing the plate numbers in a second column, over 100 pages, a few leaves detached  2) Manuscript catalogue of published works, in various hands, ordered alphabetically by composer (from "Abeille" to "Zumsteeg"), and with details of the plate numbers, c.100 pages, plus blanks, 4to (c.26.5 x 21cm), original half calf, bookseller's stamps ("Schlesinger's Musikh.") to old paper label to upper cover, [Berlin,] nineteenth century, the individual leaves well-thumbed and worn, a number of leaves torn and detached, gatherings strengthened, browning, binding worn  3) Inventory volume of newly published works, comprising partly manuscript and partly printed or typed lists of works, also detailing the transport costs, covering the period 1838-1926, the printed lists laid down, around c.300 leaves, small 4to (22 x 17.3cm), original boards, [Berlin,] 1838-1926, spine defective, covers worn, lower cover detached  together with: a manuscript volume detailing publication dates of works between 1949 and 1964, 11 leaves, c.13.5 x 12.5cm, blue wrappers, manuscript paper label to upper cover ("Nova ab 1949"); and a manuscript catalogue of works published by Steiner, Haslinger and Lienau, listing works with publisher's numbers from 8 ("Mozart...Ouverture a. d. Zauberflöte für das Pfte") to 15170, c.125 leaves, folio (c.39 x 25cm), plus blanks, cloth boards, C19th-C20th  THE PUBLISHING RECORDS OF ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT MUSIC PUBLISHERS OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY.  Some of the most seminal works of Western Music were issued by the Berlin firm of Schlesinger, founded in April 1810 by Adolf Martin, later managed by his youngest son Heinrich, from 1831 (at first with his mother Philippine, and from 1844 alone). Among the many thousands of publications by hundreds of composers itemised in these volumes, some stand out particularly: Bach's St. Matthew Passion (publisher's number 1570), Beethoven's piano sonatas opp.110 and 111 (numbers 1159-1160) and the late string quartets opp.132 and 135 (1443 and 1444). Another composer whose publications bulk large here is Weber, the rights for whose works were secured by Schlesinger in August 1814.
